Open is Here, come party Friday & Saturday

CF Games 2016CrossFit Open registration will begin on January 14, 2016. More than 200,000 people participated in the Open last year, and this year the worldwide competition will be even broader and more inclusive. Scaled versions of the Open workouts are available for individuals at any fitness level as well as a teenage division for athletes 14-17 years old.

The first Open workout will be released on Thursday, February 25, 2016. As in previous years, the Open will be a five-week competition with one new workout per week. The week’s workout will be released each Thursday at 5 p.m. PT, and competitors will have four days to complete the workout and log their score on the Games site. Score submissions will be due before 5 p.m. PT on the Monday following the workout’s release.

Stage 1: The Open

16.1: Feb. 25 – Feb. 29
16:2: March 3-7
16.3: March 10-14
16.4: March 17-21
16.5: March 24-28

Stage 2A: The Masters Qualifier

April 21-25, 2016 The Masters Qualifier will begin on Thursday, April 21. The world’s top 200 masters athletes in each age division in the Open will be automatically entered into the Masters Qualifier. Like last year, the qualifier will be a four-day online competition. The workouts will be released at 5 p.m. PT on Thursday, April 21, and the competitors will have until 5 p.m. PT on Monday, April 25, to submit their scores. The top 20 athletes in each age division at the end of the qualifier will be invited to compete in the Masters Competition at the CrossFit Games.

Stage 2B: The Regionals

The Regional competitions will be held over three weekends in May. The 17 regions in the Open will feed into eight Regional competitions. The top athletes in each region will face top athletes from at least one other region in the new format. Each Regional will take place over three days, and the top five men, five women, and five teams at the end of the weekend will qualify for the CrossFit Games. Tickets go on sale Monday, March 28, 2016.

Stage 3: The Games 

The 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games will be held on July 19-24. The final stage of the search for the Fittest on Earth will return to the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The Team and Individual Competitions will begin on Wednesday, July 20, and continue through the weekend. The Masters Competition will be held earlier in the week (Tues.-Thurs., July 19-21).

Tickets to the Games will go on sale April 28, 2016.

In gyms and health clubs throughout the world the typical workout consists of isolation movements and extended aerobic sessions. The fitness community from trainers to the magazines has the exercising public believing that lateral raises, curls, leg extensions, sit-ups and the like combined with 20-40 minute stints on the stationary bike or treadmill are going to lead to some kind of great fitness. Well, at CrossFit we work exclusively with compound movements and shorter high intensity cardiovascular sessions. We’ve replaced the lateral raise with push-press, the curl with pull-ups, the leg extension with squats, and the mirrors with bumper plates.
